I love black and white photos. Maverick, Rika, and I had a B&W photoshoot today so I could practice.

I’ve been trying to get better at taking good black and white photos. I’ve noticed that making my blacks blacker and increasing the clarity both make a huge difference.

I try to follow a lot of photography Instagram accounts so that I can continually be seeing what makes a good photo. I try to take note of which photos move me and which don’t. When it comes to black and white photos, hands down, Miranda Stoddard takes some of the best. I highly suggest following her on Instagram and soaking in all her photos, but especially her B&Ws. I’ve learned a lot from just watching her.

Kate T. Parker wrote a guest post for Clickin’ Moms called 4 Ways to Create Dramatic Light at Home. All the photos in this post are B&Ws and I loved them.

And while I’m talking about Kate, you need to go look at her Strong is the New Pretty gallery. The more I learn about photography the more photos move me. I think maybe because I’m realizing how much skill it takes to capture a photo that says so much. Her galleries are incredible.

Heather Ford from Two Blooms did a video tutorial called How to Make Better Black and White Photos in Lightroom. Some of the tricks she shares really helped me and I added several to my editing flow.
